Mechanical Design Intern

InterLink Engineering, LLC is a mechanical design firm in Phoenix, Arizona specializing in product development, reverse engineering, and design for manufacturing support. Using tools such as a Keyence VL 700 3D Scanner/CMM, Bambu and Kobra 3D printers, we support a wide variety of industries, including aerospace, medical, automotive, defense, agricultural, and commercial.
Around the summer months, we can often support one or two part-time in-office Mechanical Design Intern experienced with SolidWorks 3D modeling. Intern candidates are expected to be in a collegiate program and must be able to commute around the Phoenix area. Schedules can be flexible around school, trips, etc, and will also depend on work available at the time. Preference is given to candidates within the Mesa Community College program.
Potential Responsibilities:
Assist in brainstorming new product designs from scratch and make improvements to existing products under the guidance of Senior Designers
Transform ideas and rough sketches of designs into 3D models using SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD)
Create detailed 2D drawings of parts and assemblies for manufacturing or assembly using standard drawing practices and ASME Y14.5 standards
Collaborate with a small team and keep projects confidential
Rapid prototype and immediately adjust to design changes
Aide in the procurement, construction, and testing of prototypes and new products
Learn best practices in running or upkeeping machinery used around the InterLink office and shop including 3D printers, 3D scanner, drill press, and hand tools
Help to analyze data, review designs, drawings, or physical parts and assemblies with team members to assess completeness and any potential issues
Assist with additional customer-required tasks such as installation, manual or report writing, or presentation creation
Physical Requirements:
Able to sit for long periods of time (Frequently)
Able to effectively operate CAD system (Constantly)
Able to communicate English effectively in all media (Constantly)
Able to hold, twist, and support 10 lbs (Occasionally)
Preferred Characteristics:
Proven proficiency in SolidWorks
Proficient in MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Within a collegiate Mechanical Engineering, Design, Drafting, or similar program
Willingness to consider change and to adapt
Strong communication and note-taking skills
Capability of balancing work speed and attention to detail
Ability to network with associates in other departments to find needed information
Must be a local Greater Phoenix resident with reliable transportation for getting to and from work
