The customer's challenge was clear: in order to keep up with demand and maintain high standards, they needed an automated solution to streamline this intricate part of the process. Their goal was to improve production rates without sacrificing quality. Knowing this was critical, they came to us to create a custom piece of manufacturing equipment that could help eliminate the bottleneck.



Custom Automation Solution

Our team dove into the project, developing a concept and a rough CAD model for a proof-of-concept prototype. With this framework in place, adjustments were made to the design, and the model was refined to meet the client’s exact specifications. After receiving approval, parts were ordered, and the final assembly began. Over the course of a month, the team meticulously tested and fine-tuned the machine to ensure it operated seamlessly within the customer's production line.



How It works

The custom wipe machine utilizes pneumatic air pressure to gently and precisely wipe the sides and tops of the freshly painted golf grips. The machine is designed to adjust to different grip widths, allowing operators to modify both the speed of the flow and the height of the table to suit their needs. The process is simple for the operator: place the wet grips onto each peg as they move down the line, and the machine does the rest. The grips are rotated, ensuring that every surface that needs wiping comes into contact with clean cloths, leaving the branding perfectly revealed. Once the grip has completed its rotation, it’s automatically shot off the peg and into a container, ready for the next step.


Results That Exceed Expectations

Before InterLink’s involvement, the company was averaging 2,000 grips per day, with frequent rework due to imperfections. After installing the custom wipe machine in November—following its development, testing, and installation that started in April—the company’s production capacity skyrocketed. They saw a 300% increase, wiping an average of 6,000 grips daily. The automation not only accelerated production but also improved consistency and reduced rework, making their entire manufacturing process more efficient.
